He is now on the road to recovery, hence the mile run in aid of Myeloma UK. Four MAC ‘Old Boys’, Will Smith, Dave Dando, Alan Kirby and Pete Ison, re-created the Bannister Mile at Braywick sports ground. For those present it was nothing but awe-inspiring, with Pete Ison storming to a time of 9.31 for the measured mile. Fans were on their feet (oh! perhaps they were standing already), as the laps unwound. In the Chris Brasher phase Dave & Alan cruised around to set the scene, while Will took the next 600 yards, (a la Chris Chattaway), to leave the field for Pete's storming finish. Like a bullet from a gun Pete kicked up clouds of dust to finish in a time that will stand for minutes. In the closing event of the day the MAC Old Boys called on all their energy reserves to run the 4 x 100m relay and managed a very credible last place, finishing at least 30 seconds behind the winners. Thanks to donations on the day and a very generous donation from the Junior Section the total raised so far has reached £1,409.
